Dear Clio,
This is just a mail to say thank you for your help. We were very pleased with your service as well as our fantastic guide, Grace, in Xian.
We had a great time, saw a lot of things and enjoyed the friendliness of all people we met.
We will certainly recommend other friends to contact you for assistance.

The metro network of Beijing is not as great as Tokyo and Hong Kong but it's the fastest, punctual, reliable, economic means of transportation touring the city of Beijing. By the year of 2008 Olympic Games, there will be totally 7 subway lines in Beijing, namely Line 1, Line Batong (above-ground light-rail line), Line 2, Line 13 (above-ground light-rail line), Line 4, Line 5 and Line 10, up to 300 kilometers of subway lines by 2008. By then, subways will carry at least 20 per cent of passenger traffic in Beijing. For international tourists visiting Beijing, some basic knowledge of the main subway lines, like Line 1, Line 2 and Line 5, is quite helpful and resourceful. These three subway lines take you to almost all the major attractions in Beijing. The subway stations are clean and have English signs directing tourists to the exits near places that you are likely trying to find.
Here is a list of the top 10 attractions near subway stops:
1. Tiananmen Square
2. Forbidden City
3. Ancient Observatory
4. Lama Temple and Confucius Temple
5. Shichahai Hutong Tours
6. Junshibowuguan (Military Museum)
7. Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) City Wall Relics Park
8. Temple of Heaven
9. Beijing Zoo ( Panda )
10. Financial Street and CBD area.

Tips:
From Oct 07, 2007, a single pricing system has been enforced, which means all the subway tickets for the lines above are same price - two Yuan. (US$ 27 cents ). In addition, there is no extra charge for the transfers among different lines. So you pay two yuan, you enjoy riding all the subway lines in Beijing if you remain underground. The paper tickets will be phased out in favor of IC cards, an automatic ticket-checking systems in a bid to increase speed and convenience for passengers. Once you enter a subway station, you will find the ticketing office. You may pay RMB 2 for a subway paper ticket or buy a IC card ( RMB 20 as a deposit and another minimum RMB 20 of input money). The IC cards can also be used on buses, even in some taxis.
